Dispersion-free steering beam based alignment at SwissFEL

چکیده
Abstract Micron-level alignment of the undulator line is required for successful operation linear accelerator based high gain free electron lasers to produce powerful radiation at X-rays’ wavelengths. Such precision in straightness trajectory allows an optimal transverse superposition between electrons and photon beam. This extremely challenging can only be achieved via beam-based techniques. In this paper we will report on dispersion-free steering approach implemented SwissFEL, that helped achieving improved performance both hard soft X-ray beamlines.

Beam-Based Alignment of the NLC Main Linac, Part Two: Dispersion-Free Steering and Dispersion Bumps
The standard prescription for NLC main linac steering assumes that the RMS offset between a quad’s magnetic center and the corresponding BPM’s electrical center can be determined at the level of a micron. This is a fearsome requirement, and will be particularly difficult to achieve if hybrid iron/permanent magnet quads are used in the main linac. As an alternative, the Dispersion Free Steering ...

The paper presents an optoelectronic system for antenna beam control. Dispersion technique has been applied to build variable delay lines for wide bandwidth microwave signals. Optoelectronic beam scanning system configuration and measurements results have been presented. Key-Words: antenna, fibre optic, beam forming, optoelectronics, laser.
متن کاملDevelopments in Beam-based Alignment and Steering of the next Linear Collider Main Linac
The Next Linear Collider main linacs are 13 km linear accelerators which each contain approximately 750 hybrid iron/permanent-magnet quadrupoles in a FODO array. The small amount of vertical emittance dilution permitted in the main linacs implies a tight tolerance on the RMS distance between the beam and the centers of the quads. We describe two methods for measuring the offsets between the qua...
متن کاملBeam Based Alignment at the Kek Accelerator Test Facility
The KEK Accelerator Test Facility (ATF) damping ring is a prototype low emittance source for the NLC/JLC linear collider. To achieve the goal normalized vertical emittance γεy = 20 nm-rad, magnet placement accuracy better than 30 μm must be achieved. Accurate beam-based alignment (BBA) is required. The ATF arc optics uses a FOBO cell with two horizontally focusing quadrupoles, two sextupoles an...
متن کاملBeam Based Alignment at the Kek-atf Damping Ring*
The damping rings of a future linear collider will have demanding alignment and stability requirements in order to achieve the low vertical emittance necessary for high luminosity. The Accelerator Test Facility (ATF) at KEK has successfully demonstrated the vertical emittance below 5 pm [1] that is specified for the GLC/NLC Main Damping Rings. One contribution to this accomplishment has been th...
